May 28, 2021

This article is part of Raydiant’s new Future of Workspace Series which features interviews with a wide range of professionals and thought leaders to learn more about the future of office space and how the workplace experience will evolve.

The following is an interview we recently had with Dave Herman, President of General Indemnity Group and EZ Surety Bonds

What will be the 3 biggest lasting changes to the workplace caused by COVID?

The biggest lasting changes to the workplace by COVID are the following: remote working is more acceptable, sick leaves will be more important, and prioritize providing better healthcare. This pandemic has made everyone realize that prioritizing health above all is essential. In some offices, sick leaves weren’t a priority as people are expected to come into work as long as they can. The same goes for healthcare. Now, everyone understands that work involves taking care of yourself, and if you don’t feel too good about yourself, it’s better to get some rest rather than push yourself to work. Apart from that, remote working is now more acceptable, providing people a chance to continue working in the comforts of their home.

What workplace technologies will be the most important in the years ahead?

Business automation tools will become the most crucial workplace technologies. Because of the pandemic, more and more businesses understand the importance of digital transformation, and these tools can help any business become a truly digital company. Apart from that, they can play an integral role in the overall efficiency of the business by giving employees a quicker way for tedious tasks that consume time, allowing them to focus on what really matters in your company. These tools can also minimize your overall operational costs, helping businesses recover from what they lost during the COVID pandemic. This is why business automation tools are the future of workplace technologies.

What will the workplace of the future look like?

The future of the workplace will be a mix of in-office and remote workers. Now that people understand that not everyone is needed in the office, more and more companies will have a hybrid set-up. This allows companies to widen their search for employees even beyond the country they are based in, giving them more options to choose the best fit candidate for their role. This is also cost-effective as businesses won’t need big office space to accommodate all their employees. It also provides job seekers the opportunity to look for companies beyond the current area they live in, giving everyone a chance to find the perfect job for them.

What can organizations do to prepare for this new future?

Organizations must be prepared for an overall digital transformation. Not just having an online presence or turning brick-and-mortar stores into an eCommerce store, but a complete digital transformation; from business processes, marketing efforts, and even the workplace. Companies should start looking for tools that will help them streamline their businesses. They should also start evaluating which positions should be required to be physically present and which ones are okay to work remotely. Businesses should start understanding the needs of their employees as well, apart from just focusing on how to grow their business. Apart from that, companies should start to embrace and accept the digital space (internet) and use it to their advantage as the internet has so many opportunities it can provide to all kinds of organizations.
