CW: The top trends that will shape brick-and-mortar retailing in 2021 are Facebook/Instagram’s continued moves into e-commerce, Amazon’s continued expansion into physical grocery, and the continued impact of COVID-19, and specifically how retailers continue to give consumers more options for same-day delivery at a competitive price.

What technologies will have the biggest impact on brick and mortar retail in 2021? 

CW: The technologies that will have the biggest impact on brick-and-mortar retail in 2021 will be cloud commerce OMS and POS deployments, computer vision AI, e-commerce marketplaces, and robotics in that order.

What should brick and mortar retailers be doing now to prepare for 2021? 

CW: The most important thing retailers can do right now is to upgrade and overhaul their POS and OMS systems to the real-time flexibility requirements of today’s omnichannel consumer.

In the midst of so much change and uncertainty, what’s the future of brick and mortar retail look like? 

CW: It looks like the Book of Revelation for mall-based retail and a natural technological evolution for everyone else 🙂
